Audio: Eric Maddox talks about Robert Pattinson & Mission Blacklist

Below is an interview that the real Eric Maddox did with Pundit Review Radio, where he talks about the movie and about Robert Pattinson.
You can get the full audio by clicking here, although there are no more Rob mentions then below!

Transcript of the Audio (with thanks to Robstenation)
Eric Maddox: Well, a team a couple of years ago purchased the rights of my book to turn it into a movie and they took it from there, they got a screenplay, writer Erik Jendresen, the gentleman who wrote Band of Brothers, and got a director and producers and then they just made their decision in May to have Robert Pattinson play the lead part in the movie and …
Host: He’s the heartthrob guy from Twilight.
EM: Correct.
Host: That is pretty awesome. I mean, did you have any say in which Hollywood stag is to play Eric Maddox?
EM: Well, they gave me the final decision. I let them do all the work…like I said, I mean… Afghanistan obviously I was very busy so I let them do what they think is best and I get the final decision and for me it was a no-brainer. I said absolutely! Whatever you did to get that guy to be a part of this movie, I think is wonderful and I fully support it.
Host: Did they have any schedule for filming, any idea when it will hit theaters?
EM: I have no idea when its gonna hit the theaters. They plan on starting the filming at the end of this year. They are currently at the Cannes Film Festival in France selling and I think its all going well. Like I said, I don’t have that close hold on all the activities but I believe that is the schedule.
(…)
On meeting Rob and scouting location in Iraq
EM: They’re going to be scouting locations in Iraq if they make that decision then so be it. The one major request I had is that they keep the story as authentic as possible. The director for the film is Jean-Stephane Sauvaire and he insist on it being authentic and he refuses to put any part of it that is not real and raw and true so that is one thing that they’re very encouraged about and I met with Robert Pattinson for 14 hours earlier this month, right when I came back from Afghanistan and that level of commitment. I mean we’re talking about a guy who is super famous and really popular and we met for 14 hours and he focused exclusively on the project and want to get down to the nitty gritty of the project and his entire focus was on the project. It wasn’t about him or his needs and from that I realized that this is the guy who is dedicated to his work and wanted to put in the hours …so that’s what made me certain that they have built a right team for this.

FilmNation Acquires ‘The Rover’ (Robert Pattinson)

Via Deadline
Cannes, May 21, 2012 РFilmNation Entertainment has acquired the majority of worldwide rights to The Rover from Animal Kingdom writer-director David Mich̫d. Mich̫d has written the script based on a story he conceived with Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby).

This deal marks FilmNation’s migration into the acquisition space after ramping up their film investments and development slate. In addition to a full-fledged international sales arm, the banner now effectively develops, finances, and produces projects in-house as well as acquiring filmmaker driven content.

The Rover is set in the Australian desert in a dangerous and dysfunctional near future. Eric has left everything and every semblance of human kindness behind him. When his last possession, his car, is stolen by a gang of dangerous criminals, Eric sets off to track them down and is forced along the way to enlist the help of Reynolds (Jess: That's Robert Pattinson's role!) the naïve simpleton member of the gang left behind in the bloody chaos of the gang’s most recent escape.

David Linde will produce for Lava Bear Films, while Liz Watts will produce for Porchlight Films. Tory Metzger, President of Lava Bear, will oversee the production for the company. The film will also be produced in association with Blue Tongue Films, the directors collective of which Michôd is a member. Production will begin late 2012 in Australia.
FilmNation Entertainment’s Glen Basner said: “I loved Animal Kingdom and am thrilled to collaborate with such an exciting talent as David Michod. This film represents another big step for FilmNation as we continue to invest in high caliber films. The Rover is going to be one kick ass flick.”

Writer-director David Michôd said: “It’s a pretty clearly encouraging indicator for me with a new project when people of serious smarts and taste want to be involved and be involved early. I really feel like I’ve received that tick of approval in a big way today from the good folk at FilmNation.”

Added producer David Linde: “David Michôd has an incredibly unique voice and style that has already been acclaimed around the world. The Rover continues this style of combining powerful imagery with a story that draws you in from the opening scene. We are very pleased that FilmNation has joined us as our partner in both the US and other places around the globe.”

Producer Liz Watts said: “We are looking forward to working with David once again on The Rover – an international story of iconic proportions, imbued with the distinctiveness of David’s direction and storytelling with an Australian background not seen before. It’s fantastic to be partnering with FilmNation on the film, and together with Lava Bear we are all looking forward to getting into production.”

Territories excluded in the deal are: UK, Latin America, Australia & NZ, Benelux, Scandinavia, Greece, Indonesia, Middle East, Poland, Croatia/Slovenia, Romania/Bulgaria/Hungary, Serbia and Turkey.

FilmNation will represent the U.S. sales with UTA Independent Film Group. The deal was negotiated by UTA Independent Film Group, David Linde and Adam Rymer at Lava Bear and Glen Basner and Alison Cohen at FilmNation Entertainment. The producers were represented by attorneys Nina Stevenson and David Boyle.

Animal Kingdom won the Grand Jury Prize for World Dramatic Cinema at the Sundance Film Festival, a National Board of Review Award for Top Independent Films, Best First Film at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, and numerous awards from The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts including Best Picture and Best Director. Weaver received multiple nominations and other awards for her performance, including an Academy Award® nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Michôd is represented by UTA, Australian agency Cameron Cresswell and attorneys Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein.

At Cannes, FilmNation Entertainment is also handling international sales on The Bling Ring from director Sofia Coppola, Pedro Almodóvar’s comedy Los Amantes Pasajeros, the documentary Barca from director Paul Greengrass, and Tracers starring Taylor Lautner and produced by Temple Hill Entertainment. In addition, FilmNation has two in-competition titles: Lawless from director John Hillcoat starring Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy; and Jeff Nichols’ Mud which is also produced by FilmNation’s Aaron Ryder, starring Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon.

David Linde’s Lava Bear Films is currently developing a slate of projects including A Giant directed by Gil Kenan from a screenplay he wrote as well, the Untitled Goffigan Thriller from writer L.D. Goffigan, and the Untitled David Goyer Project, a supernatural thriller project based on an original idea by David S. Goyer.

Liz Watts and Porchlight Films produced Michôd’s debut feature Animal Kingdom. Porchlight’s producer Vincent Sheehan’s most recent release was The Hunter, starring Willem Dafoe, adapted from the Julia Leigh novel, and directed by Daniel Nettheim. Porchlight is currently in post-production on the Australian/ German/ UK co-production, LORE, directed by Cate Shortland (Somersault); and feature debut of Tony Krawitz, Dead Europe, working with Producers Emile Sherman and Iain Canning. Porchlight has a number of feature films in development including Valve, with Director Andrew Lancaster, and F***ked! A Romance with Red Dog director Kriv Stenders.

“Hate Mail” – Robs next project?

In an article published online about the 'Lawless' after party in Cannes, Michael Benaroya (producer of the movie) is mentioned, as well as the movie he's currently financing.
And what do we find? A Robert Pattinson mention!
Could this be one of the five projects he mentioned he had lining up for him when he interviewed with Premiere Magazine??

Extract from The Wrap:
Michael Benaroya of Benaroya Pictures, 31 and another producer on “Lawless,” is almost giddy with excitement…
...And he’s also financing the $11 million “Hate Mail,” with Scarlett Johansson, Robert Pattinson and Philip Seymour Hall. And he executive produced “The Paperboy,” also screening in competition in Cannes.
An old Variety article explains more:
(Note: Names could have changed
since the article was published!)
Writing-directing team Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, who became darlings of the indie scene following “Half Nelson” and “Sugar,” have set their next picture, a drama titled “Hate Mail.”
“Hate Mail” will feature interweaving stories about several Manhattanites who encounter various iterations of hate mail and grapple with the subsequent fallout of their relationships.
The project reunites the filmmakers with a quartet of past collaborators, as Jamie Patricof will produce through his Hunting Lane Films banner, while Paul Mezey will produce via his Journeyman Pictures shingle. Wayfare’s Ben Browning and Jeremy Kipp Walker will also produce.
Mezey previously produced “Sugar” and exec produced “Half Nelson,” while Patricof produced both of those films.
Fleck and Boden came on Hollywood’s radar with their short film “Gowanus, Brooklyn,” which bowed at Sundance in 2004 before the duo expanded the story to feature-length with “Half Nelson.” The duo have multiple Indie Spirit Award nominations and Fleck was named one of Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch in 2006.

Unfortunately, its IMDb Pro page has not been updated as of late.
If we find more up-to-date details, you will be the first to know! : )

Cosmopolis and On The Road in Total Film's
"15 Cannes 2012 Films We Can't Wait To See"

1. Cosmopolis

The Film: Probably the most eagerly hyped film at this year's festival, and one of the supposed frontrunners for the Palme d'Or, Cosmopolis marks David Cronenberg's return to the arena of the bizarre. Adapted from the novel by American author Don DeLillo, the film will follow Robert Pattinson's young billionaire on a journey into darkness as he discovers his fortune has evaporated, and decides to cut loose from conventional society. Paul Giamatti, Juliette Binoche, Samantha Morton and Jay Baruchel round out a pleasingly offbeat cast.

Why We're Excited: After a couple of enjoyable but conventional films in the form of A History Of Violence and Eastern Promises, we're looking forward to seeing Cronenberg return to the outer-limits of big screen storytelling.Cosmopolis represents the director's first self-penned script since 1999'seXistenZ, and from the looks of the clips and trailers we've seen so far, it promises to be deliciously weird. It also stands to catapult Pattinson out of the clutches of the soul-sapping Twilight series into a role more deserving of his talents. Put simply, we can't wait.

5. On The Road

The Film: The last time Walter Salles took a stab at a road movie, we were treated to the thouroughly entertaining Che Guevara biopic, The Motorcycle Diaries. Salles will be hoping to repeat the trick with his adaptation of Jack Kerouac's famous novel, the story of a would-be writer (a substitute for Kerouac himself) who joins the devil-may-care Dean Moriarty on a voyage of discovery across mid-20th century America. Sam Riley stars as wide-eyed protagonist Sal Paradise, with Garrett Hedlund landing what should be a peach of a role as Moriarty.

Why We're Excited: It's about time somebody took a stab at filming Kerouac's well-loved novel, and Salles is an exciting choice to bring it to life. While the counter-culture themes might not be so resonant today as when the book was first published, the cinematic narrative should still make for a cracking spectacle. Throw in an extremely talented supporting cast including the likes of Kristen Stewart, Viggo Mortensen, Steve Buscemi, Amy Adams and Kirsten Dunst, and you've got one of the most eagerly awaited films among this year's selection.
